Even countries locked in a bloody war took a moment to cozy up to the US on its 250th birthday.<\/p>\n

Among the many world leaders who posted notes of gratitude to the United States on social media Saturday was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who compared the America\u2019s fight for independence to his country\u2019s battle for survival against Russia.<\/p>\n

Ukrainians were fighting for \u201cour people\u2019s right to happiness with much the same hope, the same purpose, and the same determination with which Americans won and defended their own independence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Zelensky, who endured a tense Oval Office standoff with President Trump last year, thanked him for American Patriots \u2014 not the heroes of 1776, but the sophisticated missiles that defend Ukraine from relentless Russian missile and drone attacks. <\/p>\n

His message comes as Ukraine has fired drone attacks deep into Russian territory and sustained deadly strikes across its own capital city.<\/p>\n

Russian strongman Vladimir Putin kept his message to the US more personal.<\/p>\n

\u201cDonald, I wish you & your loved ones health, well-being & every success, & I wish all citizens of the United States happiness & prosperity,\u201d Putin said in a message to Trump, according to Russia\u2019s Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n

Beyond the battlefield, other world leaders also weighed in.<\/p>\n

French President Emmanuel Macron, who has faced his own strains with Trump over the war in Iran and the role of NATO, extended his greetings with an image. <\/p>\n

He posted a breathtaking photograph of a glistening Statue of Liberty \u2014 a gift from France in 1884 \u2014 while the aerobatic Patrouille de France flew overhead, with the air and space force jets releasing red, white and blue smoke.<\/p>\n

The Chicago-born Pope Leo XIV issued a lengthy statement Friday expressing \u201cheartfelt congratulations\u201d on the United States anniversary he called \u201cthat defining moment\u201d in the nation\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

The pontiff said it gave \u201cenduring voice to the ideals of liberty, equality, the pursuit of happiness, justice and democratic self-government.\u201d <\/p>\n

He also mentioned \u201csafeguarding human life from its beginning at conception\u201d as well as \u201cwelcoming, protecting and assisting immigrants.\u201d<\/p>\n

King Charles, in a message to Trump and the American people from the royal family, noted \u201ccenturies of shared challenge and achievement\u201d between the two nations. <\/p>\n

Charles, who brought the house down during his April state visit when he joked that \u201cif it weren\u2019t for us, you\u2019d be speaking French,\u201d said he had no doubt \u201cwe will continue to defend our shared values\u201d over the next 250 years.<\/p>\n

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper was more succinct. \u201cHappy 4th July to our American friends on this historic anniversary,\u201d she said, honoring a \u201cpartnership that spans the Atlantic.\u201d <\/p>\n

Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, who had an extraordinary spat with Trump over Iran and las blasted him for \u201cconstant, unprovoked attacks,\u201d visited the US embassy in Rome last week and hailed the bond between the two nations while speaking before a large American flag.<\/p>\n

She called the US and Italy \u201csister nations, united by a special relationship that grows stronger day after day and clearly owes a great deal to the more than 20 million Italian-Americans who have contributed to the prosperity of the United States for generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

She even brought up times \u201cwhen our points of view may not be perfectly aligned\u201d but said \u201cour ties are based on loyalty, mutual respect, willingness and an awareness that the strength of one is also automatically the strength of the other.\u201d<\/p>\n
