Thousands of fireworks, more than two dozen military flyovers and a reflective speech by President Trump \u2013 that won\u2019t be apolitical \u2013 are some of what revelers willing to brave the heat can expect at Saturday night\u2019s \u201cSalute to America\u201d bash in Washington, DC.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The grand festivities on the National Mall to commemorate America\u2019s 250th birthday promise to be a\u00a0 \u201conce in a lifetime\u201d event, giddy organizers told The Post, even as planners scrambled to keep attendees safe from the scorching temperatures expected in the nation\u2019s capital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how the celebration will unfold on July 4:<\/p>\n

Flyovers<\/h2>\n

At 1:14 p.m. ET, one of NASA\u2019s supersonic F-5 light fighter jets will streak across the sky over Washington \u2013 the first in a steady stream of aircraft set to fly over the National Mall. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Freedom 250\u2019s jam-packed schedule lists multiple aircraft flyovers and demonstrations taking place every hour up until 8:22 p.m.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The US Navy Blue Angels; the US Air Force Thunderbirds; F\/A-18F Super Hornets; F-22 Raptors; F-35 stealth fighters; and US Coast Guard helicopters and fixed-wing planes are among the aircraft slated to treat the crowd.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The US Army\u2019s Golden Knights parachutists will make multiple jumps, while Trump\u2019s new Air Force One is set to make a couple passes over the festivities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The flyovers will be capped off by a B-1 stealth bomber performing an \u201cafterburner night pass\u201d at 10:36 p.m. \u2013\u00a0 just after Trump\u2019s speech and right around the time the fireworks spectacular will take place.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s remarks<\/h2>\n

The president is expected to arrive on the National Mall in the evening, where he\u2019ll address the crowd beginning at 9:45 p.m. from a massive stage in front of the World War II Memorial, with the Lincoln Memorial serving as a backdrop.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll reflect on the last 250 years of this still very young country,\u201d a senior administration official told The Post. \u201cHe\u2019ll also talk about what he sees in the next 5, 10, 15 years. It\u2019ll be a good chance for him to also remind people of all the accomplishments that we\u2019ve made, not just in the past year and a half, but during his first term as well, and some of the administration\u2019s priorities moving forward for the rest of the term.\u201d<\/p>\n

While focused on celebrating America, Trump\u2019s speech will include \u201crally messaging elements,\u201d according to the official, and incorporate some of the elements he deployed during his speech on the National Mall last week kicking off the Great American State Fair.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump supporters can expect barbs from the president aimed at the \u201ccommunists\u201d who have unseated congressional incumbents in recent midterm primary elections and other political commentary.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s never apolitical,\u201d the senior administration official noted.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Freedom 250\u2019s schedule suggests Trump will speak for about 45 minutes, but if he decides to go off-prompter \u2013 as is often the case \u2013 the remarks may take double that time to complete.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Trump teased that he would give a lengthy speech to spite the extreme heat.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the way, on July 4th, it\u2019s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I\u2019m gonna go and I\u2019m gonna make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything,\u201d he said outside the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Record-setting fireworks<\/h2>\n

\u201cSalute to America\u201d organizers plan to unleash a pyrotechnic display of historic proportions to end the evening.<\/p>\n

More than 850,000 fireworks will be launched from two land sites and eight barges in the Potomac River over the course of 40 minutes after Trump\u2019s speech concludes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If organizers can pull it off, the spectacle will shatter the Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display, previously set when 810,904 projectiles were launched during 2016 New Year celebrations in the Philippines.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a once in a lifetime experience from a fireworks perspective,\u201d said Rocco Vitale, the president of Pennsylvania-based Pyrotecnico, the company producing the display.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI would highly encourage people to come down and enjoy the show.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pyrotecnico, Event Strategies, Inc., and Freedom 250 have been working on the show since January, and Vitale indicated that from the outset the goal was to go big to mark the historic occasion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve worked tirelessly to make sure that this is an experience \u2013 America 250 is an experience in itself \u2013 and this fireworks display is going to add to that amazing moment for the country,\u201d Vitale said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s difficult to put into words how big of a scale this fireworks display is,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt is an absolutely huge fireworks display \u2026 one on a scale that people have never seen before.\u201d<\/p>\n

While promising that the entire show will be \u201cfantastic and amazing,\u201d Vitale teased a particularly spectacular beginning and end to the display.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to really make sure that the first visual of this really met the moment,\u201d he said, \u201cand it opens up in a way that people will be in awe.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd of course the ending of it is just a grand finale that no one has ever seen before.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

While pyrotechnics unfold, a mixed military band featuring members from all branches of the armed forces will play 11 songs spanning six decades of popular music, including Journey\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believin,\u2019\u201d\u00a0 Neil Diamond\u2019s \u201cSweet Caroline\u201d and Miley Cyrus\u2019 \u201cParty in the USA.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vitale said his team is keeping an eye on the forecast but he doesn\u2019t expect the weather to impact the show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re just looking for a nice little wind,\u201d he said. \u201cA good breeze will help us push the smoke out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Freedom 250 and Pyrotecnico declined to comment on the cost of the spectacle.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tight security<\/h2>\n

For the first time, the National Mall\u2019s Independence Day celebration has been designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE) \u2014 a status usually reserved for presidential inaugurations, the State of the Union address, major political conventions and gatherings of world leaders.<\/p>\n

The designation means the Secret Service will be in charge of coordinating the dozens of federal, state and local agencies helping secure the show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

The heightened security posture comes after the feds foiled a drone attack plot targeting Trump administration officials attending the UFC Freedom 250 card on the White House South Lawn last month.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything that we do, we always put security in the forefront,\u201d the senior administration official said, noting the NSSE designation allows for more resources and assets to be deployed, as well as increased intelligence gathering.<\/p>\n

Those hoping to see the spectacle in person are encouraged to arrive at the Washington Monument grounds no earlier than 4 p.m. to minimize their time in the heat.<\/p>\n

Gates open at 5 p.m. <\/p>\n

Water and cooling stations, misting areas, shaded rest areas and additional medical personnel will be available inside and outside the event space to help spectators cope with the holiday heat wave.<\/p>\n
