On a night NYC Democratic primary voters tapped some awful candidates, Midtown Manhattan ones \u201cmade a comparably good choice and picked state Assemblyman Micah Lasher,\u201d who \u201cwants to continue arms sales to Israel and does not agree that Israel has committed a \u2018genocide,\u2019 \u201d cheers National Reviews\u2019s Jim Geraghty. And they nixed two candidates \u201cwho had no business getting serious consideration\u201d:\u00a0Trump-obsessed cable talking head George Conway just didn\u2019t prove \u201cthat interesting.\u201d The other was JFK\u2019s grandson Jack Schlossberg, \u201cthe walking, talking embodiment of \u2018Nepo Baby\u2019 \u201d who expected \u201can electorate to hand him a congressional seat because of his family.\u201d Face, it, Kennedy clan: \u201cThe inheritance has been spent, the memories of \u2018Camelot\u2019 are almost all forgotten, and the country has moved on.\u201d \u201cGood job, Democratic primary voters.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Midterms beat: Don\u2019t Expect a Blowout<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Most pros think \u201cthe GOP will lose\u201d the House midterm elections, but \u201cnot in an old-fashioned blowout,\u201d explains the Washington Examiner\u2019s Byron York. Yes, President Trump\u2019s low job approval rating and word that 59.3% say the country is going in the wrong direction\u201d while 63% say the economy is \u201cvery bad or fairly bad\u201d compounds the fact that \u201cthe president\u2019s party almost always loses House seats in midterm elections.\u201d But Dems\u2019 lead in the \u201cgeneric ballot\u201d is \u201cnot overwhelming,\u201d far smaller than they when picking up 40 seats in 2018. Crucially, \u201cthe Democratic Party\u2019s favorability rating\u201d nets as worse than the GOP\u2019s. Then again, for the prez and Republicans in DC, \u201clife will still be miserable with a Democratic House, even if the margin is small.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Librarians Gone Wild<\/h2>\n

Take a look at session titles for the American Association of School Librarians\u2019 Chicago convention, warns Erika Sanzi at The Hill: \u201cCharting Queer Visibility,\u201d \u201cRead Trans Books,\u201d \u201cQueer Kidlit Joy\u201d: All promote \u201can extreme worldview.\u201d Indeed, the group has \u201cexplicitly moved away from neutrality,\u201d dropping the word from its \u201cLibrary Bill of Rights and Code of Ethics.\u201d And the association \u201cdirectly influences which books are purchased . . . and which are disappeared or ignored\u201d in school libraries \u2014 despite their \u201cconstitutional obligation to uphold the free exchange of ideas\u201d for students. School leaders must wake up and be a \u201cbackstop for students and parents against this unrelenting ideology and propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former AG: Confirm Todd Blanche<\/h2>\n

Tapped to take the permanent job, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche will need the votes \u201cof at least 50 of the 53 Republican senators,\u201d observes former AG Bill Barr at The Wall Street Journal. Blanche \u201cis well-qualified and will run the department as effectively as anyone,\u201d providing \u201cmuch-needed leadership and stability.\u201d The job \u201cdemands legal acumen\u201d combined with \u201cpractical experience, leadership and institutional savvy,\u201d and Blanche, \u201ca skillful and accomplished lawyer with extensive experience,\u201d has \u201cthe necessary qualities.\u201d Crucially, he \u201cdoesn\u2019t shy away from giving the president straight-from-the-shoulder advice\u201d and \u201cpushes back on bad ideas.\u201d No one else \u201chas a better chance of getting through\u201d to the prez, so \u201cAmerica\u2019s interests are best served by confirming\u201d him.<\/p>\n

Waste watch: Winning the War on Fraud<\/strong><\/h2>\n

President \u201cDonald Trump\u2019s \u2018full-scale war on fraud\u2019 is the kind of low-hanging fruit that populists know how to pick,\u201d notes UnHerd\u2019s Emily Jashinsky. His Justice Department just indicted \u201c90 doctors, involved in fraud schemes totaling an alleged $6.5 billion\u201d in bogus Medicare claims. Before that, in its first month, the anti-fraud task force \u201cidentified nearly $6.3 billion in government contracts believed to be tied to potentially fraudulent businesses.\u201d Notice that \u201cso many of the investigations are focused on false claims filed to Medicare and Medicaid\u201d \u2014 debunking the Democrats\u2019 lies about GOP efforts to tighten the rules for popular programs \u201cby touting efforts which strengthen safety net programs, prioritize vulnerable American citizens, and make the federal government feel less wasteful.\u201d<\/p>\n
