Former Speaker of the House Rep.\u00a0Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., dodged answering questions on the growing influence of the socialist movement after three candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani dominated in primary elections.<\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s political clout was on\u00a0display Tuesday night after all three House candidates he endorsed \u2014 Darializa Avila Chevalier, Brad Lander and Claire Valdez \u2014 won their Democratic primaries in New York, beating out more moderate Democrats.<\/p>\n

Pelosi, a moderate Democrat herself, refused to answer Fox News Digital\u2019s question on her reaction to these socialist candidates coming out as victorious.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 20-term\u00a0California\u00a0congresswoman never formally endorsed Mamdani, but she did endorse a socialist candidate in 2024 \u2014 Dean Preston for California\u2019s District 5 supervisor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She also said that she will \u201creject\u00a0socialism\u00a0as an economic system\u201d and as a full picture of the Democratic Party in an interview with CBS\u2019s 60 Minutes back in 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf people have that view, that\u2019s their view,\u201d Pelosi said in the interview. \u201cThat is not the view of the Democratic Party.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Omar, a member of the progressive Squad, also ignored questions about the New York primary results, including whether the\u00a0three socialist candidates\u00a0could complicate House Democrats and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries\u2019 agendas if they\u2019re elected to Congress.<\/p>\n

While Omar has never formally identified as a socialist, she has supported many policies associated with socialism and has also been backed by the Democratic Socialists of America.<\/p>\n

While Pelosi and Omar walked away without responding, Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., welcomed the incoming lawmakers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Democrats in New York elected three new Democrats that will join our caucus, and I\u2019m looking forward for them participating,\u201d Johnson told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n

Asked about criticism that the three candidates have leveled against\u00a0Israel, Johnson argued they oppose the Israeli government rather than Israel itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were not anti-Israel. They were anti-Israeli government,\u201d Johnson said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe government of\u00a0Benjamin Netanyahu\u00a0has done a grave disservice to the nation of Israel and to its people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lander is Jewish himself and said in his victory speech, \u201cYou can criticize Israel and not be antisemitic. You can be an anti-Zionist and not be antisemitic.\u201d<\/p>\n

The three primary winners have all been critical of Israel\u2019s military campaign in Gaza, making the issue a defining point of the\u00a0Democratic Party\u2019s\u00a0progressive wing.<\/p>\n

Johnson then called out Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s relationship with President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0and condemned both of their involvement in starting the war with Iran.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people there will have an opportunity to correct the mistake that they made,\u201d Johnson said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe same way that the people of America have the opportunity to correct this mistake that we made in electing Donald Trump, who unfortunately got manipulated into war by Benjamin Netanyahu.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cPeople don\u2019t like this war, and they don\u2019t like Israeli government policy that put us into this war.\u201d<\/p>\n
