Second lady Usha Vance took a jab at The New York Times after an article commented on the \u201cpolitical significance\u201d of her pregnancy \u2014 including a dress she wore on her podcast show \u201cStorytime with the Second Lady.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vance made second lady history as the first spouse of a vice president to be expecting a child since 1870. The last vice-presidential wife to be pregnant was Ellen Colfax, wife of Vice President Schuyler Colfax.<\/p>\n

Vance, who is expecting her fourth child with the vice president, hit back at the NYT after it highlighted the messaging surrounding the prominent pregnant women in the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

Most notably, Katie Miller, wife of White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. All three women announced pregnancies within weeks of each other.<\/p>\n

The New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman wrote the story, \u201cThe Politics and Power of the Pregnancy Image.\u201d<\/p>\n

Friedman writes, \u201cThat three such prominent women in the MAGA movement were pregnant at pretty much the same time was, indubitably, a coincidence. But for an administration that has such an intuitive and strategic understanding of the power of aesthetics that an unspoken dress code in which men outfit themselves in the image of the president has developed, it has also become a telling one.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, the women have created a notably consistent, and somewhat paradigm-shifting, picture of the White House\u2019s family and fertility platform,\u201d Friedman added.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not where Vance popped in. She took aim at Friedman\u2019s line about the second lady, \u201cwearing a stretchy coral dress that hugs her stomach.\u201d<\/p>\n

The writer was referencing an Instagram Reel posted by the second lady promoting an interview with her husband, Vice President JD Vance, during a special Father\u2019s Day episode of the \u201cStorytime with the Second Lady\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n

In a post on X, the second lady wrote, \u201cNow that we know the political significance of my $8.75 coral maternity dress from Old Navy, can\u2019t wait to hear what the New York Times has to say about my elastic-waistband pants and compression socks!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the meantime, enjoy my pregnancy fashion (or lack thereof) and a good story with your kids on Storytime with the Second Lady,\u201d Vance added.<\/p>\n

To really lock it in, Vance added the \u201creceipt,\u201d which was just a screenshot of the Old Navy website highlighting the maternity dress, which had the cool price of just $8.75.<\/p>\n

Supporters flooded the post with one user writing, \u201cBrilliant response! Thank you Second Lady Vance. You are truly a wonderful role model;-) Praying for a healthy pregnancy and delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another fan chimed in, \u201cYou make $8.75 look like a million bucks! Be a you tiful!\u201d<\/p>\n

The post also shared the full podcast on YouTube, a kids program that features Usha Vance reading different stories aloud alongside special guests. The first episode featured \u201cThe Tale of Peter Rabbit\u201d by Beatrix Potter.<\/p>\n

The YouTube channel description reads, \u201cDesigned to inspire a lifelong love of reading, each episode brings together the second lady and a special guest to share cherished children\u2019s stories in an engaging and accessible format for families.\u201d<\/p>\n
