Eric Adams\u2019 former top adviser and political power broker, Frank Carone, was arrested Wednesday, and several ex-NYPD officials were raided as part of multiple separate corruption probes.<\/p>\n

Carone had his home searched by the feds in the early morning operation and was arrested in an alleged bribery scheme, according to police sources.<\/p>\n

The charges were not immediately known. The indictment is expected to be unsealed in Brooklyn Federal Court Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Separately, the NYPD hit the homes of former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, ex- Assistant Chief James McCarthy and the once top police spokesperson Tarik Sheppard, according to the sources.<\/p>\n

Those cases stemmed from the NYPD probe into Maddrey\u2019s alleged misappropriation of funds, and the FBI was called in to assist in the investigation.<\/p>\n

Sources said authorities are investigating potential bribery and other official misconduct by former high-ranking police officials.<\/p>\n

The feds also arrested others in the Carone case; however, it was unclear how many others and who were taken away in cuffs, sources said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning, members of the NYPD\u2019s Internal Affairs Bureau and the FBI executed search warrants as part of a criminal investigation\u00a0being\u00a0pursued by the NYPD, the FBI, and the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York. The investigation is ongoing and concerns conduct by former and current\u00a0members of the NYPD,\u201d said Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I became Police Commissioner, I promised New Yorkers that under my leadership the NYPD would conduct itself with integrity and that there would be a thorough investigation of any claim that members of service failed to meet that standard. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis investigation and our actions this morning are part of the ongoing effort to fulfill that commitment and hold the Department to its highest ideals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Allegations of criminal wrongdoing have long dogged Carone, who served as Adams\u2019 chief of staff for his first year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first federal case he was tangled in stemmed from accusations surrounding a Brooklyn church and Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello.<\/p>\n

The feds\u00a0slapped\u00a0Gigantiello and Carone\u00a0with subpoenas connected to the church\u2019s finances in 2024.<\/p>\n

Maddrey, meanwhile,\u00a0was forced to resign from the department in late 2024 amid a sexual scandal\u00a0where he was accused of forcing an underling\u00a0to perform intimate favors in exchange for overtime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McCarthy also previously had his phone seized by the feds, along with a number of other top NYPD officials.<\/p>\n

It was also not known why feds were eyeing Sheppard, a hot-head former Deputy Commissioner of Public Information who once called a Post reporter a \u201cf\u2013king scumbag.\u201d<\/p>\n
