Our year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are feeling great,\u201d the democratic socialist mayor told supporters while stumping for Lander, who is challenging incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman for New York\u2019s 10th House District covering parts of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani said his endorsed slate of socialists were \u201cstanding together,\u201d noting that New Yorkers will be deciding who to send to Washington DC to help in advancing his \u201caffordability agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that we live in the most expensive city in the United States of America, we\u2019ve made it very clear that we need to transform the city into one that each and every single person can afford,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Follow live updates on Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s socialist agenda and the latest in NYC politics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mamdani kicked off the morning with Avila Chevalier, a community organizer who worked on his mayoral campaign, with the pair rolling into a nearly empty Harlem polling place around 7:30 a.m. for the candidate to cast her ballot, according to City &amp; State. The mayor voted early at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The doctoral student is looking to topple five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat and seize New York\u2019s 13th House District seat representing Upper Manhattan and the northwest Bronx.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old candidate has come under fire throughout her campaign for a series of past inflammatory social media posts, including lashing out at Joe Biden and establishment Democrats, calling the US \u201ca f\u2014ing disgrace\u201d and blasting that Israel doesn\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani, who boosted her last month, claimed he hadn\u2019t seen Avila Chevalier\u2019s comments before he opted to endorse her. She has said she is \u201cnot interested in relitigating the politics of my tweets.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most voters didn\u2019t seem bothered by her controversial internet history, with many pointing to her progressive policies, economic message, and the mayor\u2019s endorsement as reasons for backing her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s a progressive. She stands strong in economic issues or appears to be,\u201d Juan Alvarez, a 36-year-old Washington Heights native, told The Post after casting his vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m an immigrant myself and she has strong positions on immigration. It\u2019s the first time I felt like I had a real choice with the Democratic primary. Nydia Vel\u00e1zquez to become her successor in representing parts of Brooklyn and Queens.<\/p>\n<p>Queens Councilwoman Julie Won is also in the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like there are a lot of really good candidates, and I really want progressives to be in office,\u201d said a 35-year-old counselor who voted for Valdez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw a lot of movement with Zohran, and I felt like that was really exciting to see that it\u2019s actually possible to get us in there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old mayor \u2013 whose wife, Rama Duwaji, urged voters to back Valdez and Avila Chevalier on social media \u2013 later made his way to Chinatown to stump for Lander, a failed Big Apple mayoral candidate.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Voters said Lander\u2019s views on Israel \u2014 coupled with a boost from Mamdani \u2014 helped win their support as he squares off with Goldman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s proven to be incredibly effective,\u201d Greg, a 40-year-old city government worker, told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI work in city government and everybody I work with, regardless of department, has a good Brad Lander story about how he was fixing something that would normally just go into a black hole. Plus, he defaults into being open and collaborative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A married couple in their 30s pointed to Lander\u2019s \u201cfresh energy\u201d and Mamdani\u2019s endorsement as key reasons for supporting him.<\/p>\n<p>As of noon, 259,964 votes had been cast citywide, led by Manhattan at 97,426 and Brooklyn at 83,547.
