A teenager gunned down two people and injured a child in a horrific library shooting in Northern California late Monday.<\/p>\n

Police received reports of an active shooter at a Butte County library just past 5 p.m., and rushed to the scene after hearing a 911 call filled with screams and gunfire.<\/p>\n

Officials arrived and nabbed the alleged shooter, 18-year-old Chico resident Bradley Scott Sayer, after he tried to leave through the back door.<\/p>\n

Sayer has been booked into the Butte County Jail on two counts of murder. The FBI is assisting in the investigation into the tragic shooting, as well as the Butte County Sheriff.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe incident tonight was obviously very sad and very traumatic for a lot of people \u2014 very traumatic for our community,\u201d Chief Billy Aldridge of the Chico Police Department said during a news conference on Monday night.<\/p>\n

Cops said he did not appear to know his victims and had a \u201cdesire to commit a Columbine High School massacre type of shooting.\u201d He appeared to act alone, police said.<\/p>\n

Sayer allegedly committed the shooting at Butte County Library, which routinely holds events for children and teens. All library branches have been closed on Tuesday after the shooting.<\/p>\n

Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2019s office issued a statement on the shooting.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hearts are with the Chico community tonight,\u201d Newsom said. \u201cWe are grateful to law enforcement for their swift actions to secure the scene and take the suspect into custody. No family should have to endure a tragedy like this. \u201c<\/p>\n

Rep. James Gallagher (R-CA), who represents Chico, says he is \u201cheartbroken\u201d by the shooting.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI am heartbroken by the senseless act of violence in Chico tonight and am praying for the victims, their loved ones and everyone impacted by this tragedy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to the brave law enforcement officers and other first responders who responded quickly to protect our community. Chico is strong, and we will stand together in the days ahead,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing, officials said. Police are actively \u201cconducting interviews, collecting evidence, and reviewing facts of the case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chico is a city located about 90 miles north of Sacramento.<\/p>\n
