Austin Metcalf\u2019s dad blasted the \u201cmoral decay of society\u201d as he scolded commentators for peddling falsehoods about his son\u2019s murder \u2013 as convicted killer Karmelo Anthony gears up to mount a fresh freedom bid.<\/p>\n

Jeff Metcalf lashed out at \u201cThe View\u201d co-host Sunny Hostin, who suggested the jury in the Texas trial shouldn\u2019t have thrown out the self-defense argument after she watched the recently-released bodycam from the April 2, 2025 killing, and claimed Anthony, now 19, has grounds for appeal. <\/p>\n

\u201cPeople had their own opinions without even seeing the facts, and that\u2019s the part I have trouble with,\u201d a bemused Jeff told Fox News star Will Cain.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, in today\u2019s moral decay of society that we\u2019ve witnessed, people believe that if they have their own voice, they scream loud enough, they\u2019re right.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really wish they wouldn\u2019t speak about it at all because one, if that woman said that, she has no idea about the facts of the case, but she wants to spew her public opinion on a platform that reaches millions of people every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The elder Metcalf ripped into commentators who he believes are trying to monetize his son\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re looking for their 15 minutes of fame, or their clickbait or their clicks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re just looking to monetize the death of my son.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hostin \u2014 a former federal prosecutor \u2014 raised eyebrows when she claimed Monday Anthony didn\u2019t have a jury of his peers, referring to Batson challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a challenge that is used to strike a juror of color for a race neutral reason,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re supposed to have a jury of your peers \u2013 you\u2019re not just supposed to strike someone because they\u2019re black.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think he had a jury of his peers, so on appeal there is a legitimate thing\u201d she said, citing demographics of the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also think we have to look at self-defense here, there seems to be two systems of justice at play in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hostin said she didn\u2019t understand why self-defense was thrown out during the trial after watching the video.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe kid that died\u2026 was 200 pounds, this kid was 130 pounds, and the other kid was taller than he is. He was the only black kid under the tent. And the victim here had his twin brother with him who was also a very large person,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you don\u2019t fear for your life. I weigh 130 pounds, facing someone that\u2019s 200 pounds I would be terrified of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthony was convicted of murder earlier this month and given a 35-year prison sentence \u2013 despite claiming throughout he had acted in self-defense.<\/p>\n

But Anthony told cops \u201cI\u2019m not alleged, I did it\u201d after being detained following the stabbing near the high school track meet, according to the bodycam video.<\/p>\n

Anthony appeared to justify his actions, telling officers that Metcalf had put his hands on him after he warned him not to.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not alleged. I did it. He put his hands on me. I told him not to. He put his hands on me,\u201d the tearful teen told cops.<\/p>\n

The video was just one of the exhibits made public after his conviction.<\/p>\n

The \u201cStand with Karmelo Coalition\u201d announced Monday a new team of lawyers has taken on the teen\u2019s case, spearheaded by Dallas-Fort Worth criminal defense lawyer Russell Wilson II.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team, serving pro bono, will review the trial record and pursue all available avenues of appeal,\u201d the group said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOur responsibility is to determine whether a legal error occurred and to ensure every issue supported by the record is fully and vigorously presented on appeal.\u201d<\/p>\n
