Sen. Bernie Sanders\u2019 latest communist fever dream \u2014 nationalize half the AI industry \u2014 is telling in a host of ways: Damning about his entire political project and the modern US political world.<\/p>\n

It has zero chance of passing even a Democratic Congress; it\u2019s blatantly unconstitutional; it\u2019s economic suicide \u2014 and it\u2019s fundamentally tyrannical<\/em>. <\/p>\n

But his call to seize trillions of dollars of private property doesn\u2019t get him laughed out of the discussion.<\/p>\n

Indeed, it will likely soon be a regular talking point for the movement he leads. <\/p>\n

Which means there\u2019s an excellent chance some scaled-down version of it will be grist for multiple 2028 presidential campaigns, and the demand of lefties in Congress \u2014 and so prompt serious consideration of various \u201ccompromise\u201d proposals. <\/p>\n

He did the same thing with \u201cMedicare for All,\u201d his push for socialized medicine; others in the party did it with demands for open borders \u2014 which became the Biden administration\u2019s de facto policy.<\/p>\n

Heck, his also-lunatic call for a national moratorium on new data centers is inspiring pushes for state-level ones that could well become law, for example in New York, when every single claim about the centers\u2019 evils is utter poppycock. <\/p>\n

Even his argument for the AI-seizure idea is absurd: He insists that \u201cthe foundation of AI is based on the collective knowledge of humanity and the creative work of tens of millions of people.\u201d<\/p>\n

OK: Several companies have played fast-and-loose with intellectual-property rights in training up their Large Language Models software, but our laws already offer a template for justice there: Just use existing royalty systems that, for example, compensate songwriters when a measure of music they wrote is sampled and streamed on Spotify. <\/p>\n

Let the writers themselves get paid for their \u201ccreative work\u201d; it\u2019s no excuse for the feds to get a dime.<\/p>\n

But that issue isn\u2019t really the heart of Bernie\u2019s argument; it\u2019s much more the Obama \u201cYou didn\u2019t build that!\u201d theme, off the trivial truism that every innovation, every successful business, depends on the functioning society around it and our collective heritage of knowledge. <\/p>\n

By that logic, the \u201cpeople\u201d should own everything <\/em>. . . with the elite who run the government deciding what the people actually get out of it.<\/p>\n

That collectivism brings oppression and ruin everywhere it\u2019s tried \u2014 but then Sanders has been a fan of every nation that\u2019s impoverished itself this way, from the Soviet Union to Castro\u2019s Cuba to Chavez\u2019s Venezuela.<\/p>\n

A record that didn\u2019t stop him from nearly becoming Democrats\u2019 2020 presidential nominee. <\/p>\n

And, really, some smaller-scale version of \u201cseize the wealth\u201d now drives practically every major Democratic proposal \u2014 with \u201cclever\u201d Republicans looking for creative ways to join in.<\/p>\n

The bottom line: Bernie Sanders\u2019 ideas are monstrous<\/em> \u2014 a recipe for the destruction of the greatest country the world has ever known \u2014 yet next to no one in politics or the media stands up to denounce them, or him.<\/p>\n
