Joe Rogan has claimed that multiple former US presidents \u201cthrew a lot of money\u201d at Spotify to remove his hit podcast over accusations he was spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n

Rogan, 58, made the remarks while speaking with behavior expert Chase Hughes during a discussion about social media and influence on Wednesday\u2019s episode of \u201cThe Joe Rogan Experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not kissing your ass here, but you\u2019re willing to say s\u2013t that sounds preposterous at the beginning of something, and just make an observation that\u2019s real,\u201d Hughes told Rogan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the position that I was in during the COVID thing was very unique,\u201d Rogan replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had already \u2014 I\u2019d gotten such a head start. I was so far ahead of them. They didn\u2019t realize my ability to say, \u2018Wait, this is \u2014 this doesn\u2019t make any sense.\u2019 Like, none of this makes any sense,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rogan was accused of spreading COVID-19 misinformation during the pandemic after he suggested he would not take the vaccine if he were young and healthy. He also criticized COVID-era lockdowns.<\/p>\n

Rogan described the pushback he faced during that period, claiming, \u201cThey tried to crush my sponsors. They organized campaigns. There was PACs (political action committees) involved.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThank God I was on Spotify. And thank God Spotify is not an American company,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd also it helped that I was number one in, like, 90 countries and not number 90 in one country, you know? That helped. That helped a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t even talk about it. But there was presidents involved and former presidents involved that were contacting Spotify,\u201d Rogan said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh yeah,\u201d he continued. \u201cTrying to get me removed for vaccine misinformation. Yeah. And it turned out to be right. All of it. Not a single [person] apologized.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot a not a single retraction, not a single, you know, mea culpa, not a single, \u2018we were wrong.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He revealed that he lost sponsorships during that time. <\/p>\n

\u201cI lost a lot, a lot during those days,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rogan added \u201cthere was a lot of coordination\u201d behind the effort, and said, \u201cI don\u2019t talk about it too much because it\u2019s \u2014 it\u2019s pretty \u2014 it\u2019s pretty deep.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was nuts, but it didn\u2019t work, right? But they tried. They spent a lot of money, a lot of money.\u201d<\/p>\n

No specifics were provided about which former presidents he was referring to.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Spotify faced backlash from critics who accused Rogan of spreading COVID-19 misinformation.<\/p>\n

Musician Neil Young famously removed his catalog from Spotify in protest, saying he did not want to share a platform with Rogan.<\/p>\n

Spotify\u00a0was forced to add content advisory labels to Rogan\u2019s podcast episodes that discussed coronavirus and COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Daniel Ek, Spotify\u2019s founder and CEO, addressed the controversy during an earnings call in February 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the important part here is that we don\u2019t change our policies based on one creator, nor do we change it based on any media cycle,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur policies have been carefully written with the input from numbers of internal and external experts in this space \u2014 and I do believe they\u2019re right for our platform.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the same interview with Chase Hughes, Rogan also criticized opponents of the UFC White House fight night, defending it as a nonpartisan and unprecedented patriotic event.<\/p>\n
