Former child actress Daveigh Chase, known for her roles in \u201cThe Ring\u201d and \u201cLilo & Stitch,\u201d has died. She was 35 years old. <\/p>\n

Chase died on Tuesday following a case of meningitis and an infection in her blood, which caused her to suffer septic issues and lead to her body shutting down, according to her boyfriend Roy Hernandez.<\/p>\n

TMZ was the first to report this news. <\/p>\n

According to the outlet, Chase was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital earlier this month due to malnutrition. <\/p>\n

A rep for Chase did not immediately respond to Page Six\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n

The actress rose to fame at a young age after landing the lead role as Lilo in Disney\u2019s \u201cLilo & Stitch\u201d film in 2002. She also reprised her role in the franchise\u2019s TV series.<\/p>\n

Prior to her breakout role, she also voiced the character of Chihiro Ogino in the American dub of \u201cSpirited Away.\u201d <\/p>\n

Also in 2002, she gave a haunting performance as Samara Morgan in the horror classic, \u201cThe Ring,\u201d which earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.<\/p>\n

In 2006, she landed a recurring role in HBO\u2019s \u201cBig Love\u201d as Rhonda Volmer. She made 32 appearances throughout the show\u2019s five-season run. <\/p>\n

Her additional credits include \u201cDonnie Darko,\u201d \u201cSabrina the Teenage Witch,\u201d \u201cBeethoven\u2019s 5th,\u201d \u201cER,\u201d \u201cMercy\u201d and more.<\/p>\n

But, her onscreen appearances stop after she starred in \u201cAmerican Romance\u201d in 2016. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to make something that I love and people will respect,\u201d Chase previously told\u00a0Interview of her career in 2009. <\/p>\n

\u201cI want to do things that will change someone\u2019s life, not something they\u2019ll forget about tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

After her final role, Chase kept a low profile away from the spotlight. Her last Instagram post, which was shared in 2017, showed the actress artfully posing with a unicorn balloon. <\/p>\n

\u201cUnicorns DO exist \ud83d\ude3b,\u201d she captioned the post. <\/p>\n

Shortly before her death, a GoFundMe was created by her boyfriend to help Chase \u201cfind comfort and peace\u201d in her final days. <\/p>\n

Many people know her as a talented childhood actor from \u2018Lilo & Stitch,\u2019 \u2018Spirited Away,\u2019 and \u2018Donnie Darko.\u2019 But behind the scenes, she\u2019s faced more than her share of hardship,\u201d the campaign reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown LA. When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll she ever wanted was a place where we could live together, feel safe, and be happy. Now, more than ever, I want to give her that sense of home and peace in her final days,\u201d Hernandez wrote at the time. <\/p>\n
