{"id":1996,"date":"2026-06-14T07:06:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-14T07:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=1996"},"modified":"2026-06-14T07:06:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-14T07:06:16","slug":"crazed-knicks-fans-plunge-nyc-into-celebration-chaos-as-nba-finals-ecstasy-turns-violent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=1996","title":{"rendered":"Crazed Knicks fans plunge NYC into celebration chaos as NBA Finals ecstasy turns violent"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>New York City was plunged into chaos as thousands of revelers flooded the streets of Midtown after the Knicks won their first NBA championship in 53 years.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=1994\">Knicks fans go insane after first NBA Finals win in 53 years \u2014 with jam-packed street party<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The out-of-control Knicks fans were seen smashing up a cop car outside of Madison Square Garden, while others destroyed MTA and school buses among the madness in the hours after New York\u2019s historic win on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Two maniacs were seen jumping on top of the car and smashing up its front windshield , according to a video posted by FreedomNews TV.<\/p>\n<p>Fans converged into the area around the arena to celebrate the Knicks 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In another wild scene captured on video, NYPD officers took down a crazed fan and shoved several others back outside the garden.<\/p>\n<p>The detained man, wearing a Knicks Finals sweatshirt, was handcuffed and escorted away but appeared to have been let go and ordered onto a sidewalk.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t immediately clear how many people had been arrested amidst the chaos as of early Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>A Spurs fan had hopped into a police vehicle in an attempt to escape the packed Knicks crowd that had surrounded it.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of NYPD officers in riot gear raced into the area, pushing the rabble-rousers off of W31st Street.<\/p>\n<p>The surging officers detained several people, taking them to the ground as the rest of the crowd ran off the street, according to video posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>Officers on horseback took over an intersection on 8th Avenue, trying to disperse the crowd outside of the arena.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/metrotransitreview.com\/?p=1992\">Victor Wembanyama, Spurs choke again in catastrophic NBA Finals Game 5 collapse<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Officers say they haven\u2019t worn this much protection in the streets of the city since COVID<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been doing this job for 20 years and I\u2019ve never had to wear riot gear,\u201d one officer told The Post outside MSG.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A frenzied mass spread to Times Square to continue the celebration, where dozens of people, some decked out in Knicks gear, climbed on top of an MTA bus\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two school\u00a0buses\u00a0and an MTA bus were taken over by rowdy groups as the\u00a0madness turned chaotic\u00a0after\u00a0midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Several\u00a0instigators began\u00a0to destroy\u00a0one of the\u00a0buses,\u00a0ripping the front paneling from the engine compartment and swinging the debris to the approval of the delirious\u00a0crowd, according to video shot by The Post.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, a shirtless man spiked the engine grill cover onto the street before two other men jumped on top of it.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Knicks owner James Dolan cautioned fans to celebrate safely as he enjoyed his first championship with the team in San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want everybody tonight, in New York, be safe,\u201d Dolan told reporters in the post-game press conference. \u201cOK, celebrate, but be safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Knicks fans across the state raced down to the city Saturday to watch the final game on the streets of New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels amazing,\u201d Yanal Zeid told The Post. \u201cThe city is electrified right now. There\u2019s no further of coming together than this. This is the most you will see a city come together. We are bonding, we\u2019re completely tied together now.
