Five people were stabbed inside Penn Station Sunday evening in what witnesses and sources described as a random attack by a deranged man that sent commuters running for their lives.<\/p>\n

The knifing rampage began shortly after 7 p.m. at the busy Midtown commuter hub, according to the FDNY \u2014 just over 24 hours before President Trump will be directly above the transit center, at Madison Square Garden for Game 3 between the Knicks and Spurs.<\/p>\n

Five victims were rushed to Bellevue Hospital, including one person with serious injuries, two people with moderate injuries, and two others with minor injuries, fire officials said.<\/p>\n

Victims screamed in agony, and crowds of terrified commuters ran for safety, trying not to get trampled as the madman launched the random attack against strangers waiting for their trains home, witnesses told The Post.<\/p>\n

An unidentified suspect is in custody, authorities added. The individual is believed to be emotionally disturbed and homeless, according to sources.<\/p>\n

An Amtrak spokesperson confirmed to The Post that Amtrak police responded to the stabbing and apprehended the suspect.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A picture posted to social media showed a group of cops pinning an individual to the ground on the floor of the station.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis guy stabbed somebody in Penn Station,\u201d witness Brandon Norwood, who took the photo, wrote. \u201cPeople were flooding out of the station.\u201d<\/p>\n

Norwood was waiting to take a 7:04 p.m. train home when he saw the suspect stab someone by Track 1 of the NJ Transit boarding area \u2014 and said chaos immediately broke out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw him stab one person, and once [the victim] started screaming, everyone ran. Someone fell, and I had to help them up so they weren\u2019t next or trampled,\u201d Norwood said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt all happened so fast,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna stay with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

A worker at Penn Station who wished to remain anonymous, said that he received calls to shut down the area and arrived to find two wounded men and the floors covered in blood.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI got calls to start closing the station,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was real bloody, there was a lot of blood on the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

The worker added that he saw one victim with bandages on his head who \u201clooked like he was hurt pretty bad,\u201d and another with what appeared to be a scratch to his neck.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s New York City. Things like that happen, unfortunately, it happened down here.\u00a0 I can\u2019t say it happens here a lot because it doesn\u2019t \u2026 it\u2019s a good place here, people trying to get home.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just glad it wasn\u2019t anything crazier than what it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

An employee at a food vendor inside Penn Station said a huge rush of people came running from the knife-wielding brute \u2014 who was eventually tackled by police after a cop called for backup.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw people running, nothing else. They were terrified. I saw how one officer managed to tackle the person [the suspect] down,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m working here, and so not only me, my coworkers too, my supervisor over there is working, so \u2026 we\u2019re terrified because it\u2019s about our own safety as well,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Other New Yorkers said the randomness of the stabbing in a major public place unnerved them the most.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can be standing there waiting for your train and the next thing you know is you\u2019re waking up in the hospital with one of your eyes gone,\u201d Nia Carrington, 52, told The Post.<\/p>\n

The Hamilton Heights resident added that the area around Penn Station particularly has her on edge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis part of town is just so full of mentally ill people, people off their meds, people on drugs wandering around like they\u2019re on another planet. And every once in a while they have a knife in their pocket,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Mateo DeJes\u00fas, of Bushwick, was inside the transit hub when people started stampeding and knew he had to rush out too.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone\u2019s putting their life on the line getting on a train. That\u2019s the reality. You get used to it,\u201d \u00a0DeJes\u00fas, 27, said. \u201d You just hope you\u2019re not in the wrong place at the wrong time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, five people stabbed, tomorrow the President of the United States is coming in to watch the Knicks right here. It\u2019s f\u2013king chaos around here,\u201d 24-year-old Yandel Mercado, of Newark, said.<\/p>\n

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani wrote on X that he\u2019s been briefed on the \u201chorrific\u201d attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been briefed on the horrific stabbing at Penn Station. Based on the information available right now, six people were stabbed and the alleged perpetrator is in custody following a swift response from the Amtrak Police Department,\u201d Mamdani wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart is with everyone who was injured, their loved ones, and all those shaken by this unacceptable violence. I\u2019m wishing each of the victims a full and speedy recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sources said the suspect was also wounded during the rampage \u2014 accounting for the sixth injured.<\/p>\n

\u201cTonight, five people were senselessly attacked at Penn Station in an act of horrific violence,\u201d New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to the law enforcement officers and first responders whose swift actions prevented further harm.\u201d<\/p>\n
