That\u2019s a red flag: Our school systems have become socialist indoctrination factories.<\/p>\n

This week Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a leftist agenda-setter, called on the federal government to confiscate half the value of the nation\u2019s largest artificial intelligence companies.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s targeting OpenAI, Anthropic (creator of Claude) and xAI,\u00a0for starters.<\/p>\n

Making his announcement on\u00a0Facebook\u00a0and in a\u00a0New York Times\u00a0opinion essay, Sanders said he\u2019ll introduce legislation\u00a0to slap these companies with a 50% \u201cownership tax\u201d \u2014 literally grabbing company stock without paying anything for it, in shocking\u00a0defiance of the US Constitution.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s expropriating private property for government use, an idea straight out of Vladimir Lenin\u2019s or Fidel Castro\u2019s playbook.<\/p>\n

His flimsy justification:\u00a0\u201cSince AI is built on the collective knowledge of humanity, the wealth it generates must benefit humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sorry, senator \u2014 all<\/em>\u00a0inventions and breakthroughs are built on the knowledge that\u2019s come before.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The same argument could rationalize demanding half the stock of a biotech company that produces a cancer cure, or a musical composer who writes a hit.<\/p>\n

Who would invest or invent if the government could swoop in and take half?<\/p>\n

Sanders\u2019 bill is going nowhere while there\u2019s a Republican majority in Congress \u2014 but ignore it at your peril.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a warning: Outright confiscation is the left\u2019s latest scheme to remedy\u00a0inequality and pay for ever-expanding public benefits.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sanders lifted the idea from two law professors, Jeremy Bearer-Friend of the George Washington University School of Law and Sarah Polcz of the University of California at Davis School of Law.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lawyers, can you believe it?<\/p>\n

You\u2019d think they\u2019d recall that the US\u00a0Constitution\u2019s \u201ctakings clause\u201d \u2014 Bill of Rights, Amendment Five \u2014 bars the government from grabbing property without \u201cjust compensation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ivory-tower universities tend to reward faculty for their imaginative proposals, and Polcz and Bearer-Friend have\u00a0admitted their unconstitutional plan\u00a0would be challenged in federal court.<\/p>\n

Sanders couldn\u2019t care less.<\/p>\n

And New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani agrees: He\u00a0warned us at his inauguration that he\u2019d introduce New Yorkers to the \u201cwarmth of collectivism.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

His new\u00a0Block by Block\u00a0housing plan proposes seizing apartment buildings from their owners to give them to what he calls \u201cresponsible stewards,\u201d\u00a0including tenants \u2014 another outrageous attack on property rights.<\/p>\n

Pay attention to how fast Democratic Socialist candidates spouting collectivism are making headway.<\/p>\n

This week\u2019s primaries produced outright wins or runoff advancements for more than a dozen Democratic Socialists-backed candidates in five states.<\/p>\n

Who likes these ideas?\u00a0Young voters.<\/p>\n

Members of Generation Z in particular have a rose-colored view of socialism, communism and collectivism.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

According to a recent\u00a0Heartland Institute\/Rasmussen Reports\u00a0poll, nearly 60% of likely voters age 18 to 24 want a Democratic Socialist in the White House in 2028. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Mandani captured\u00a078% of under-30 voters\u00a0in November, per an ABC News exit poll.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Socialists of America, once the haven of radical retirees reliving their 1960s glory days, is now powered by the young: DSA saw its\u00a0membership\u2019s average age plunge from 68 to 33\u00a0in the last decade.<\/p>\n

Blame the leftist indoctrination in K-12 schools and in universities for this socialist and communist enthusiasm.<\/p>\n

A staggering 62% of voters age 18 to 29 hold a favorable view of socialism, and 34% favor communism.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what they\u2019re being taught.<\/p>\n

CoolKid Facts, a popular education website aimed mainly at elementary-age students, teaches kids that communists believe \u201cthe state should provide every citizen with their basic needs . . . and no one is above anyone else.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

Sounds utopian.\u00a0<\/p>\n

No mention of the brutalities, starvation and mass murders committed in the name of communism by Lenin or Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot, Castro or Che Guevara.<\/p>\n

In New York state social studies classes, communism and socialism are presented as two economic systems that make things more equal and fair \u2014 again without discussing the atrocities that go hand in hand with property confiscation.<\/p>\n

Some states are wisely pushing back.<\/p>\n

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new law last year requiring his state\u2019s public schools to teach\u00a0\u201cthe brutal realities of life under communism.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Texas has passed a similar law.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That\u2019s one way to counter heavy-handed teachers\u2019 union indoctrination.<\/p>\n

While they\u2019re at it, these states should also teach students about the Takings Clause, and explain to them why property rights are the engine of economic growth. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

Confiscating capital is the fastest way to kill an economy, as history has proven again and again.<\/p>\n

Sanders\u2019 AI-theft scheme is just the beginning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The best defense \u2014 the only defense \u2014 is an educated electorate.<\/p>\n

Considering the misguided attitudes of many Gen Z voters, there\u2019s no time to waste.<\/p>\n
