Libertarian: Don\u2019t Let Big Brother Control AI<\/h2>\n

Reason\u2019s Elizabeth Nolan Brown contrasts the White House\u2019s \u201crestrained\u201d AI vision with Sen. Bernie Sanders\u2019 \u201cfrighteningly authoritarian vision in which the federal government gains significant control over private AI companies and the future of output.\u201d \u201cFusing government priorities with private sector priorities is the whole point of Sanders\u2019 new proposal\u201d giving \u201cthe public a 50% ownership stake in the largest AI companies in America.\u201d He claims \u201cthe collective is owed a cut of AI company stock,\u201d but under his American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, notes Nolan, ordinary Americans \u201cwould not have a direct role in determining the future of this technology; bureaucrats and politicians would.\u201d<\/p>\n

Media watch: Times\u2019 Delaney Hall Delusions<\/h2>\n

As it covered Gov. Mikie Sherrill troubles touring the Delaney Hall ICE facility, The New York Times accidentally exposed the lies of \u201cthe governor\u2019s fellow Democrats, who also insist that they have been denied access to the facility,\u201d notes National Review\u2019s Noah Rothman. Except the same story notes members of Congress do <\/em>have rights to inspect, but fails to note Homeland Security can restrict access for safety reasons, as \u201cduring periods in which the band of agitators encamped outside the facility engages in violence.\u201d Of course the paper also downplayed that violence, emphasizing \u201ca \u2018festive\u2019 atmosphere. \u2018Some demonstrators bopped their heads to dance music, salsa, punk rock, rap and reggae,\u2019 the report read. When they weren\u2019t assaulting cops, at least.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Welfare State Kills Work Ethic<\/h2>\n

Federal data show that \u201c1 in 3 men were neither working nor looking for a job in April,\u201d laments the Wall Street Journal\u2019s Jason L. Riley. This rise in \u201cmale joblessness doesn\u2019t stem from an inability to find employment\u201d but rather \u201cfrom an unwillingness to search for work.\u201d \u201cTechnological advancements and deindustrialization\u201d are not to blame \u201cfor the increase in male idleness.\u201d Democrats cite Europe as a \u201csocial-welfare model for the US\u201d yet \u201cnearly a million Brits under 25 aren\u2019t employed, in school or in job training,\u201d as nearly half claim some disability, with \u201cseven in 10\u201d of them \u201care still on it a decade later.\u201d Beware: \u201cEurope\u2019s large safety net isn\u2019t a model for America. Liberal: Dems Seek Authenticity, Deliver Fakes<\/h2>\n

Seeking the \u201cHoly Grail\u201d of \u201cauthenticity,\u201d Democrats have nominated candidates who are \u201cdefective and downright weird,\u201d moans Joe Klein at Sanity Clause. In Maine, Graham Platner, \u201cthe boy with the Nazi tattoo,\u201d a \u201cfake oysterman,\u201d has adopted a \u201cseries of silly positions.\u201d In Texas, Dems think that being a divinity student renders James Talarico \u201cexotic to the point of being .\u2009.\u2009. authentic,\u201d despite hos progressive-line views on race and gender. \u201cAuthenticity has slipped into affect\u201d for Democrats, \u201cwho have been hemmed in rhetorically since political correctness overwhelmed the party\u201d; they imagine it\u2019s \u201ca matter of style, not content.\u201d In reality, an \u201cauthentic politician tells us something true that we don\u2019t want to hear\u201d; Platner and Talerico are merely \u201ccarnival acts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Politics beat: American Democracy\u2019s Challenge<\/p>\n

Primary elections \u201cseem to be providing little in the way of good news for both parties\u2019 futures,\u201d muses the Washington Examiner\u2019s Michael Barone, as both Democratic and Republican \u201cprimary electorates seem focused on fighting the same old battles they have been fighting\u201d since Donald Trump joined the scrum in 2016. Seemingly \u201chopelessly addled by loyalty to, or hatred of, Trump,\u201d both parties \u201cseem engaged in self-harm\u201d: Which one will \u201churt itself more by poor candidate choices and tactical blunders\u201d? Yet \u201cworse things can happen in electoral democracies\u201d: Last century \u201can antidemocratic upheaval\u201d after the horrors of the first World War ended freedom first in Russia, then Italy and Germany, while \u201cAmerica\u2019s political parties, old even then, did better.\u201d Take hope now: \u201cThe enduring character of America\u2019s historical parties has provided and can provide again an alternative to antidemocratic or anti-republican views.\u201d<\/p>\n
