Embattled Democratic Maine Senate hopeful Graham Platner admitted Thursday to sexting other women shortly after marrying his wife, but denied allegations he abused an ex-girlfriend \u2013 calling her claim \u201cpolitically motivated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the beginning of our marriage, I made mistakes,\u201d Platner said in his first major interview since the Wall Street Journal reported that he exchanged sexually explicit messages with as many as a dozen women since his 2023 marriage to Amy Gertner.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt stopped when it was happening,\u201d Platner said during his appearance on MS NOW\u2019s \u201cAll in with Chris Hayes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former oyster farmer and Marine veteran claimed he started sexting other women \u201csoon after we got married,\u201d noting he and his wife \u201cdealt with it very, very early in our relationship, and so that\u2019s when it stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n

Platner, who is running to unseat Maine\u2019s longtime Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins, found himself embroiled in yet another scandal ahead of the interview, after the New York Times detailed accounts from his ex-girlfriends, who recalled his alleged abusive behavior and a hatred of women.<\/p>\n

His exes described Platner as someone who \u201chated women,\u201d \u201cdoes not respect women,\u201d\u00a0and would refer to them as \u201chatchet wounds.\u201d<\/p>\n

One woman, Lyndsey Fifield, alleged that Platner once twisted her during an argument and shoved her in a bedroom, refusing to let her out until she was \u201ccalm.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also claimed Platner would routinely grab her by the shoulders, sometimes hard enough to leave marks, and one time forced her out of a cab she did not want to exit by yanking her wrist.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fifield, who dated Platner from 2013 to 2015, further remembered him boasting about having a Nazi tattoo and calling it \u201cmy Totenkopf\u201d \u2013 which contradicts the Democratic candidate\u2019s claim that he only realized he had the Nazi SS death squad symbol on his chest last fall.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Platner said Fifield\u2019s allegations \u201cdid not\u201d happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything alleging physicality, anything alleging that I knew what my tattoo was \u2013 these are the statements of someone who\u2019s politically motivated,\u201d he told Hayes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose serious allegations are just not true.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked point-blank if Fifield \u2013 a Republican campaign worker from Virginia \u2013 was lying, Platner responded, \u201cYes. That is not true.\u201d<\/p>\n

When pressed about his tattoo, Platner reiterated that \u201cany statement saying that I did know is, again, totally false.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

When Hayes noted Fifield showed the Times text messages she had sent her friends discussing Platner\u2019s Nazi ink prior to it making headlines, the candidate said: \u201cShe certainly didn\u2019t send that text to me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe text messages she\u2019s sending to friends who may have recognized it, that\u2019s \u2013 they didn\u2019t tell me that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Platner is expected to secure the Democratic nomination on June 9, having no serious opponent after Maine Gov. Janet Mills dropped out of the race April 30.<\/p>\n

He also holds a 7.4% edge over Collins in general election polling, according to a RealClearPolitics average of surveys.<\/p>\n

Platner said has not considered dropping out of the race amid the controversies and has no regrets about running for office.<\/p>\n
