SULLIVAN, Maine \u2014 Alleged sleazeball Senate hopeful Graham Platner\u2019s dirty laundry is the talk of his tiny Maine town just days ahead of a nail-biter primary \u2014 with some saying the Democrat\u2019s unsavory behavior is not fit for office.<\/p>\n

Platner \u2014 who is running to unseat Maine\u2019s longtime Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins \u2014 was exposed by the Wall Street Journal for sexting women on a lurid hookup app while he was married and then by the New York Times for being a drunken woman-hater who once locked an ex-girlfriend in a bedroom.<\/p>\n

And locals in Sullivan, population 1,200, are downright disgusted.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one like that should run for office. That\u2019s stupid,\u201d a resident named Esther told The Post on Wednesday, while her 85-year-old husband agreed.<\/p>\n

Retiree Barbara Watkins, 89, called Platner\u2019s multitude of scandals \u201chorrible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe should drop out and go away,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Platner, who married his wife in 2023, sexted with at least six women on the app, Kik \u2014 his profile picture featuring a shirtless bathroom selfie under the username Phustle0331.<\/p>\n

His lurid behavior was flagged by his wife, Amy Gertner, to campaign aides as they conducted opposition research on their candidate in August.<\/p>\n

But the 41-year-old\u2019s wife took to social media to defend her husband, explaining they\u2019d move through their marital problems and were happy.<\/p>\n

Some of Platner\u2019s hometowners weren\u2019t so convinced, however, including women who sympathized with his wife.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s right for him to do that,\u201d said 50-year-old Susan Harmon. \u201cObviously, he thinks it\u2019s alright, but I feel bad for his wife.\u201d<\/p>\n

And 87-year-old Navy vet Colby A. Young called Platner \u201can idiot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe speaks like one and talks like one,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n

The sexting situation was just the latest scandal to dog Platner in the nine months since he entered the public eye \u2014 he was exposed for posting vile comments online about the likes of rape victims, cops and minorities, and claimed he had no idea that he had a Nazi \u201cdeath\u2019s head\u201d tattoo on his chest for nearly two decades.<\/p>\n

He then spent the ensuing months promising voters there were no more skeletons in his past \u2014 saying so as recently as April at a Maine town hall and then promising Democrats the same thing this week.<\/p>\n

The latest polling still places Platner, who\u2019s been endorsed by Sens. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, ahead of the pack, and beating Collins by a more than 7-point lead.<\/p>\n

A Platner win would upset Sullivan\u2019s longstanding conservative record \u2014 the tiny town voted red in the 2024 and 2020 elections, voting Collins in for another term six years ago over her Democratic opponent by nearly 20 points.<\/p>\n

And some of his followers are still keen to support him \u2014 even if they don\u2019t like how he\u2019s acted in the past. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs a married woman, I\u2019m not really thrilled about it, but if that\u2019s as far as it went and their able to work through it together in their own relationship, I think that\u2019s the most important thing,\u201d\u00a055-year-old Nicole Esther said.<\/p>\n
