Scott Pelley accused CBS News management under Editor-in-chief Bari Weiss of trying to inject \u201cfalsehoods and bias\u201d into reporting after the veteran correspondent was fired Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Pelley, who spent 37 years at CBS News and became one of the most recognizable faces of \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d leveled a series of extraordinary allegations against CBS News leadership without giving specifics.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story,\u201d Pelley wrote. \u201cI\u2019ve been told to include assertions that are unverified.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pelley claimed he repeatedly resisted those efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also alleged that politicians had been given influence over editorial decisions.<\/p>\n

\u201cRecently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast,\u201d Pelley wrote. \u201cGiving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pelley appeared to be alluding to a Post exclusive which found that Weiss allowed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to choose CBS News correspondent Major Garrett as the journalist who would interview him \u2014 even though \u201c60 Minutes\u201d star Lesley Stahl was angling to get the sit-down for months.<\/p>\n

Garrett\u2019s interview with Netanyahu was aired on \u201c60 Minutes\u201d even though he is not a part of the show\u2019s full-time roster of correspondents.<\/p>\n

In his first public statement since CBS News terminated his employment, Pelley blasted the network\u2019s new leadership and claimed \u201cthe collapse of values at the top has become untenable\u201d following the recent ouster of top producers and correspondents.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast month, 60 Minutes lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause,\u201d Pelley wrote in a statement posted to Instagram early Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n

The broadside comes just days after Pelley confronted newly installed \u201c60 Minutes\u201d executive producer Nick Bilton during a contentious staff meeting.<\/p>\n

According to accounts of the meeting, Pelley accused Weiss of \u201cmurdering \u201860 Minutes\u2019\u201d and said she \u201cwas brought in to kill it and is doing exactly that.\u201d<\/p>\n

CBS News terminated Pelley after the confrontation, capping a tumultuous week that also saw the departures of executive producer Tanya Simon, correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, senior executive producer Draggan Mihailovich, veteran producer Guy Campanile and staffer Matthew Polvoy.<\/p>\n

Pelley further accused management of \u201cincompetence and unprofessionalism\u201d that have \u201cwreaked havoc\u201d inside the newsroom.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Pelley also took aim at Paramount Skydance, claiming the company was weakening \u201c60 Minutes\u201d while \u201capparently\u201d seeking \u201cto curry favor with the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the acrimonious split, Pelley ended his statement by praising his former colleagues.<\/p>\n

\u201cI depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion \u2014 a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
