WASHINGTON \u2014 President Trump said in a \u201cPod Force One\u201d interview out Wednesday that he expects to meet Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and the at-war leaders are \u201cgetting along quite well\u201d despite sputtering peace talks.<\/p>\n

Mojtaba, 56, hasn\u2019t been seen in public since the war started on Feb. 28 with surprise US-Israeli airstrikes that reportedly injured him and killed his father, the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and other members of his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s involved, absolutely. Yeah, I think they have a lot of respect for him,\u201d Trump said of the younger Khamenei, whose seclusion has resulted in peace talks being protracted by a days-long process of snail-mail couriers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t had the privilege of meeting him\u2026 If you believe the stories, he\u2019s missing a lot of different parts,\u201d Trump told The Post\u2019s Miranda Devine.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey say he is giving approval, because that\u2019s the way it has been for a long, long time. His father and then him, I guess it\u2019s a succession. But we seem to be getting along quite well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about a possible meeting, Trump told Devine: \u201cYeah, I\u2019d like to meet him. I\u2019d love to meet everybody. I would like to meet him and we probably will meet at some point, depending on how it all works out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has unconventionally welcomed in-person contact with other American adversaries, arguing the norms-busting approach can forge relationships that make the country safer.<\/p>\n

During his first term, Trump exchanged what he referred to as \u201clove letters\u201d with nuclear-armed North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, with whom he met three times, de-escalating atomic saber-rattling.<\/p>\n

Also during his first term, Trump planned to host the Taliban at Camp David for peace talks, before the idea was scrapped.<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s shifting tone on Mojtaba Khamenei is notable.<\/p>\n

Trump previously dismissed\u00a0him as a \u201clightweight\u201d and an \u201cunacceptable\u201d choice to run Iran and said the rumors about his sexuality put \u201chim off to a bad start in that particular country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump was briefed by intelligence officials in March that Mojtaba was probably gay \u2014 with the president and other aides laughing aloud at the unconfirmed spy-agency lead, which suggested he\u2019s had a long-term romantic relationship with a childhood tutor.<\/p>\n
