Tim Tebow ‘pausing’ relationship with Christian group after bombshell expose
Tim Tebow said he’s “pausing” his relationship with Life Surge after scam allegations emerged earlier this week.
The faith-based conference company was accused of using predatory sales tactics to push attendees into expensive financial and investment programs, according to a joint investigation by “Pablo Torre Finds Out” and Mother Jones.
Tebow, 39, said he was “caught off guard” by the report when speaking to the Gainesville Sun on Friday.
“I think the allegations are extremely, extremely serious, and it’s something that we take very seriously,” Tebow said. “We’re having our team do an investigation, but also pausing our relationship so we can learn more about the facts to be able to understand more.”
When asked whether he knew about the questionable practices before the report came out, Tebow didn’t offer much clarity.
“Honestly, I was at an anti-human trafficking conference yesterday, and the team shared with me when we were leaving as we were flying to Alabama for an event,” Tebow said. “Kind of caught off guard with some of it, and that’s why we’re trying to understand more of the facts to really learn it.”
Tebow serves as a “Kingdom Ambassador” for Life Surge and has been one of the company’s featured speakers at its “faith and finance” events.
The investigation into Life Surge alleges that it uses prominent Christian speakers to attract attendees before steering them toward costly investment and financial training programs.
Some attendees said they felt pressured into spending thousands of dollars on the courses.
“It’s really important to get answers to understand every bit of that. In my heart, getting to share [at Life Surge] was to be able to share something that I love to share, which is the love of Christ and the good news of the gospel,” Tebow said.
“I think it’s really important that we can really understand all the facts and details of it.”
