Beijing has laid down “red lines” for the leaders’ discussion: four specific topics that Beijing wants Trump to avoid — while a Senate Republican foreign policy buff bashed the “lavish welcome” planned for the communist head of state, to feature a massive military flyover.
In a rare gesture Wednesday evening, POTUS himself met Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews, first lady Melania Trump by his side, in what’s believed to be the first time since 1962 that a president has extended the honor to a non-pope.
Thursday night’s glitzy state dinner is a highly-coveted affair, with Washington’s elite lobbying the president for seats. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Nvidia chief Jensen Huang are among the tech titans and hedge fund bosses on the guest list.

The menu for tonight’s state dinner honoring Chinese President Xi Jinping is out and features “American ingredients with subtle Chinese influence,” according to first lady Melania Trump’s office.
“The meal begins with a toast of Schramsberg ‘Blanc De Noir,’ honoring the historic ‘Toast to Peace’ shared by President Nixon and Premier Zhou Enlai in Beijing in 1972. The same American sparkling wine served at that historic gathering continues to be enjoyed at White House functions today,” the White House said.

The first couse consists of yellow squash velouté and a wild mushroom fricassée, complemented by crispy pancetta and topped with a drizzle of scallion oil.
That is followed by sesame-crusted sea bass, served with braised baby bok choy and roasted eggplant, finished with sauce vert.
For dessert, the menu calls for a vanilla crémeux with a sour cherry confit center atop a walnut frangiapane and served with White House Honey ice cream on the side.
“There is a lot of details that comes in to plan the state dinner,” the first lady told “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning. “There is protocol that you need to follow. Every detail I was involved [in] from tomorrow.”

WASHINGTON — Thursday night’s White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping is turning into the hottest ticket in DC, with big tech and hedge fund bosses literally lobbying President Trump for a seat at the table.
Many of the same honchos who traveled to Beijing with Trump this past May — a group that included Elon Musk, Nvidia chief Jensen Huang, Blackstone’s Stephen Schwarzman, and Facebook’s Dina Powell — are angling for a coveted invite to the Sept. 24 fete, sources tell The Post.
Huang is expected to attend, a source tells The Post. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is also attending, the company’s Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane told CBS Mornings on Wednesday.
