The aircraft collided around 2:30 p.m. in Edinburg, a town roughly 20 miles from Saratoga Springs.

One plane landed safely at the nearby Plateau Sky Ranch Airport, while the second crashed in a heavily wooded, remote area, investigators said.

It took more than two hours for investigators to find the destroyed Schempp-Hirth Ventus-2B off Sand Lake Road, roughly six miles from where the surviving Schempp-Hirth Ventus-2B landed.

The body of the pilot, who was the only person in the glider, was found at the crash site.

Their identity has not been released pending family notification.

The surviving pilot did not suffer any injuries — and even went back up in a plane to help in the search for the other glider, according to a witness.

Pictures show that the survivor’s glider had some scraping near its nose, but emerged from the collision relatively unscathed.

“The front end had some damage,” Elayne Wade, owner of Plateau Sky Ranch Airport, told The Times Union. “The pilot is shaken but OK.”

It’s not yet clear what caused the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
