Trump optimistic about wrapping up Iran war, claims things will turn out ‘fine and dandy’ during meeting with Ireland PM

President Trump was upbeat about the prospects of wrapping up the six-month-old war with Iran, saying the country had been pushed back and things will turn out “fine and dandy.”

He made the remarks in Dublin during a meeting with Toiseach Micheál Martin at the start of his trip to Ireland.

Trump said Iran was most likely responsible for attacks on Saudi Arabia’s East-West Pipeline, which the Kingdom was forced to shut down Friday following multiple drone attacks reportedly originating in Iraq, where Iran holds sway.

“I think they are, probably they are. They are on the balls of their feet right now,” Trump said of the Iranians.

He also gave leeway to the Houthis, who in recent days seized Perim Island, a vital territory off the coast of Yemen in the entrance to the Red Sea – a key shipping transit route.

“We have had discussions, the Houthis called us and they don’t want to fight with us,” Trump told reporters. “They don’t want us to go after them and would much prefer not having us involved and they’re letting most ships go through, it’s just one country they’re not too happy with. And we’ll get that straightened out.”

Trump is set to travel later Saturday to his Doonbeg golf course in County Clare, where he is attending the Irish Open.
