Geno Smith to start for Jets against Steelers
Geno Smith will take the field in a Jets uniform on Friday for the first time in a decade.
The 35-year-old quarterback will start the team’s second preseason game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh, a source confirmed to The Post’s Brian Costello, after he missed the preseason opener against the Buccaneers due to ankle soreness.
Smith practiced all week, though head coach Aaron Glenn on Wednesday wouldn’t say whether Smith would play against the Steelers.
“I just think there’s soreness,” Glenn said of Smith’s ankle. “I think any player at this point knows that something is going to hurt at some point. He’s a competitor and he wants to make sure he gets those reps in. The thing is that we want to be smart too about how we go about doing things when it comes to him and any of our players.”
Rookie Cade Klubnik started last Friday’s game against Tampa Bay.
