The unidentified soldier was killed in action Saturday during a controlled detonation of unexploded devices from a downed Iranian attack drone – while newly discovered human remains may belong to another service member who had been missing, CENTCOM said.

“After a thorough search, US military personnel found unidentified remains at the location earlier today,” the agency said. “An examination process to verify the remains is ongoing.”

The soldier’s death came one day after two service members were killed in Jordan in an Iranian airstrike  Friday and a third reported to be missing in action.
