Knicks owner James Dolan blasts Mamdani as a fake fan before canceling MSG watch party

By
Caitlin McCormack

Madison Square Garden CEO James Dolan claimed Mayor Zohran Mamdani is “not a Knicks fan” before nixing the highly-anticipated watch party at the famed arena.

Dolan, 71, took issue with the exhaustive five-block security perimeter the mayor’s office and NYPD opted to keep up for Game 4.

The measures were originally put in place on Monday for President Trump’s appearance at Game 3, where he lounged in an exclusive box with Dolan.

“We’re seeing a lot of fear from the mayor’s office, a lot of anxiety,” Dolan told WFAN Sports Radio on Wednesday.

“They’re sitting there trying to say, ‘well, we’re big Knicks fans’ but they’re not Knicks fans,” he added, before specifically reiterating that Mamdani is “not a Knicks fan.”

Dolan also alleged that the intense security was “designed around stopping people from celebrating around Madison Square Garden.”

Mamdani responds to Dolan after Knicks owner cancels watch party

By
Mark Suleymanov

Mayor Mamdani is still rooting for the Knicks.

The New York City mayor responded to James Dolan’s barbs in a Wednesday X post, confirming the city approved MSG’s permit to host fans for a watch party outside the venue.

Dolan ripped Mamdani – and Gov. Katchy Hochul – during an appearance on WFAN Radio Wednesday, claiming security restrictions limiting the amount of fans and screens at the watch party went against the spirit of the event.

“MSG requested a permit for a watch party for 500-999 fans,” Mamdani wrote in response on X. “We approved that permit for 999 fans. Mr. Dolan has now decided to cancel the watch party.

I know this is breaking hearts across our city. But if there’s one thing Knicks fans don’t need permission for, it’s showing up for our team wherever we may be — no matter the block or the borough.
